It’s publication day for Madison Harper book 9! As They Lay Sleeping is now available in ebook, audio and paperback via Amazon.
This is the penultimate book in the series, with book 10 being the final. Although it could keep going for many more books if I let it, I’ve decided now’s a good time for the series to end as Madison and Nate have everything they’ve ever wanted and I’d like to leave them in a good place since they deserve it after all they’ve been through! I don’t know if I will return to the series sometime in the future, but for now, it’s time for a break. I’m currently writing the final book, which will be published in May 2026. I’ll post here where it’s available to pre-order, sometime in February.
This series grew from a single book about a man named Nate who has the worst luck in the world to a ten-book series about Nate and the woman who would ultimately help him through his pain (and vice versa!). It’s been fun and emotional to watch their journey over the years. Thank you so much for sharing this journey with us. I always write with my readers in mind and I’ve been amazed by how much you enjoy the books. I know many of you will be sad it’s coming to an end, but I think it’s better to go out on a high than to let it fizzle out. I really hope you enjoy book 9, and then book 10 next spring!
Here’s the cover and blurb for book 9:

Tucked under her blanket, a teddy placed on the pillow beside her, the little girl could be sleeping. Madison’s blood runs cold as she stares at the crime scene. Not wanting to believe what she’s seeing, she vows to bring the child’s twisted killer to justice…
Detective Madison Harper is about to be the happiest woman in the world. As she walks down the aisle toward her fiancé Nate, a bouquet clasped in her hands, she can’t believe she’s finally getting to marry her soulmate. But before they can exchange vows, a shot echoes through the air and screams ring out. Someone drops to the ground in a pool of blood…
The next day, still dazed from the fallout, Madison is called to another crime scene. Local woman Denise and her young daughter Lucy have been found dead in their home. Dressed in yellow pajamas, the little girl is on her stomach, her face hidden by her fine blonde hair. Her mother lies still down the hall, as if resting. What kind of monster would do this?
With two potential killers on the loose in a town reeling with shock, Madison receives a threat from the wedding shooter which turns the entire case upside down. With time running out before another life is lost, can she get justice for the victims and stop two cold-blooded killers in their tracks?
Take care,
Wendy
